How to Stop NIU Style Massacres

Filed under: Crime,Education — Tags: , , , , , — Paddy Wallbouncer @ 12:24 pm 2008 February 15

Three Point Plan:

1. Enact legislation that requires gun ownership, then make it illegal to draw guns in public. If you draw you gun in public, you risk a 10 year prison sentence unless it is in verifiable self-defense. With approximately 150 students in the hall at the time of the shooting, how many holes would this NIU shooter have in him before he fired a second shot?

2. Enact Legislation that bans publicizing the name of the perpetrator. There’s got to be some morbid fame seeking behavior here that can be easily avoided. If a nut-job knew he would not have his picture in the paper and his name would not be emblazoned across the nation and the world, would he have given the idea a second thought? How many lives would have been saved if a wacko knew s/he would not gain infamy? Probably more lives than have been saved in 20 years of child seat laws. I’ll bet John Lennon and JFK would still be alive, or at least have died from more natural causes. If those unnamed goonies realized no one would remember their names, would they have second thoughts? Yes Columbine dickheads, this means you too.

3. Develop real paths to success for troubled individuals instead of pumping them full of drugs and pigeon-holing mental illness. Nobody wants to look at the shooter as a victim in cases like this, but it is happening with so much frequency, that it could not all be attributed to fame seeking behavior. It’s amazing when you consider the amount of money the government will spend on programs with little positive social effect, that something could not be done. It’s a tough issue however. Would this, or the Virginia Tech shootings been avoided? On one hand you don’t want to scare truly violent prone people away from seeking help, and on the other hand you don’t want to make it “fun and profitable” to be crazy. We’ll keep you informed of this and other entertaining news.

  • point 2 of your 3 point plan has to be the most pathetic attribution for a persons reasons for committing such a horrendous crime. We are all dumber for having spent the time reading your words or listening to other people who espouse such unsupportable drivel. To think that someone did a crime like this to supposedly have the satisfaction of their name emblazoned across the media is foolhardy at bet and detrimentally misleading. The guy killed himself so how is he going to get any satisfaction from such behavior. No one really knows just how one’s perspective might change when they get to the – other side- of life.

  • Thanks for visiting! This is such a tragic story, and one we are hearing all to often. The “me”ness of our society has to be contributing, there are no rules for “me”, and it’s all about “me” falls on so many children. We must question, where are they getting it? To wrapped up in the fast pace of life, as a society. I was at the dentist years ago, my son was 4, he was good, but a boy, and the woman said.. “you should give him something to calm down” HE was 4! Calm Schalm! Never went back there
