False Accusations net couple 15.5 million in Joliet

In June 2004 little three year old Riley Fox was found dead at forked Creek in Wilmington Illinois, about 50 miles south of Chicago. Kevin Fox, Riley’s father was charged with murder and then allegedly coerced into a confession that involved an accidental strike and a cover-up to make it look like his daughter was abducted, raped, murdered, and dumped near the local waterway. Kevin spent eight months in jail before forensic evidence cleared him of any wrongdoing.

It is the highest award of its type on record. Previously, James Newsome, a man who spent 15 years in Jail was awarded 15 million. An award some say seems more appropriate given the amount of life Mr. Newsome spent behind bars.

Kevin Fox was awarded 9.3 million and Melissa Fox, (Kevin’s wife -also named in the suit) and was awarded 6.2 million for a total of 15.5 million. States Attorney James Glasagow will be appealing the ruling on the basis that key information was withheld that demonstrated a reasonable justification for the mans arrest and confinement. There were also multiple pleas for a mistrial by the State that were ignored.

It seems there is little doubt Kevin Fox and his wife were mistreated, but one could not help but think that there must be people all over Will County trying to figure out what they can do to get falsely arrested to win a multimillion dollar lottery.
