Here come the third grade jokes. But we wont get into that just now. The banners at the ball park in the spring will tell that story. When Kosuke Fukudome performed his magic at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, the Cubs organization had a keen eye to sign him with their Chicago team.

Fukudome decided to leave offers from the Japanese league to pursue a four year $48 million dollar contract as the Chicago Cubs number one first round free agent draft target. Besides getting to play his favored position –left field, it is rumored that one of his reasons for joining the Cubs is that they are such lovable losers. The cubs haven’t won a world series in over a century now.

The 30 year old Fukudome has an impressive career to date with two golden gloves, a .305 batting average and 2006 Central League MVP awards to his name. He will be the first Japanese born starter to play for the Cubs major league team.
